Rice Mill Wedding: Becca & Taylor

At the end of April I was fortunate yet again to assist at another Paige Winn Photo wedding. Working with Paige is always a treat because her couples are always so fun and easy to be around. This was the third time since March that I’d been at the Rice Mill with her and yet again, the design team transformed it into such a different look than we’d seen before. I loved the simplicity of gray, white, and purple and how it fit the mood of the Rice Mill so well. Becca and Taylor’s day was relaxing and easy from start to finish, their ceremony was heartfelt and emotional, and then everyone had a great time getting down on the dance floor :) Enjoy some of my favorites!

Adoptables from Lowcountry Lab Rescue

This past Saturday I got to meet so many great new dogs available through the Lowcountry Lab Rescue :) I always love getting together with the dogs, fosters, and volunteers and we had a great turnout this time at the James Island County Dog Park. LLR is a wonderful organization and the volunteers work their tails off pulling dogs from shelters, rehabbing them, and finding forever homes. If you or anyone you know may be interested in one of these dogs, check out their Petfinder website and fill out an adoption application. They also keep their Facebook page updated with all of their available dogs so that’s another great way to keep in touch. And of course, share share share if you can! You never know who may be ready to open up their heart and home to a new pup :)

First up is Poppy. She was such a doll and those eyes just melted me.

This yellow guy above (right) and below is Phoenix. He was definitely a happy camper and very well behaved.

A puppy! This is Jackson. Don’t tell me he isn’t making your heart melt right now…

This sweet old lady is Mother Hubbard. It’s pretty obvious but she’s such a mellow, laid-back girl with an easy and kind demeanor.

Above (right) and below is Gypsy, a real sweet little lady. Look at those ears :)

This guy is Happy, and his name suits him perfectly. He got along with all of the other dogs, loves tennis balls, and just wants to play :)

Above (right) and below is Bear. He was just that…a big teddy bear and a real gentleman.

Next is Cash, another very handsome and laid-back guy.

And to the right we have a good looking chocolate guy named Fudge :)

Jessica & Joe

St. Simon’s Island, a part of the Golden Isles of Georgia, is one of the most beautiful and charming places I’ve ever been in my life. I feel like it’s Georgia’s best kept secret, but probably just because I didn’t grow up around here and it’s new to me. I absolutely love any excuse to get down that way, so when Jessica emailed me about shooting her and Joe’s wedding there this fall, I was so excited. And then twice as excited when she decided to have their engagement session there, rather than Atlanta where they currently live. No offense to you Atlanta, because you’re fun too, but SSI is incredible!

Jessica and Joe were so fun to spend the evening with! Jessica was SO excited, and despite a couple of hiccups in her plans before and during the session, we just rolled along and had a good time :) She and Joe are so funny together…very goofy and themselves, which I love. Jessica wanted to start shooting right in the same area they will say their I Do’s at later this year, so we rocked out her cute little styled setup, and then took in the sunset along the water. Enjoy some of my favorites from their gorgeous evening on St. Simon’s Island!

They included their dog Brody, which of course I was all about! He is the cutest and we were definitely BFF’s from the very beginning.

This is where Jessica and Joe will be getting married in October, and also where they got engaged, so Jessica requested a few silly “re-enactment” photos, which I thought was fun :) Joe totally milked it haha.

Maryland Farm Wedding: Catherine & Bobby

Catherine and Bobby’s wedding was so special for so many reasons, but it was especially exciting for me because I’ve known Catherine since I was in middle school. We grew up living across the creek from one another and attended the same school for a while, so it was really, really awesome when Catherine got engaged and asked me to photograph she and her fiance’s big day. I was so excited to meet Bobby at their engagement session because I knew that this guy had made Catherine’s world light up. As I’m sure you can tell, Bobby is just as charismatic, genuine, and warm as Catherine. Their wedding day felt entirely like them from beginning to end, and I loved seeing how happy and at home they were celebrating that evening with all of their loved ones. The ceremony was held at a church in town, and the reception was hosted at the Cox family farm. Catherine’s mom said that they really wanted to focus on family, and I’d say they succeeded. Enjoy some of my favorites :)

Catherine’s parents were married at this same church and also had their formal photos under this same Dogwood tree, so of course that called for a photo on their daughter’s special day years later.

Catherine got dressed in the same church library that her late grandmother was a librarian at. So special :)

Catherine and Bobby poured sand from their respective farms into a unity jar. I love this idea because Dustin and I did the same thing at our wedding :)

Calvert Kettle Corn and Calvert County cookie favors! The Cox’s and Hamilton’s have been farming in Calvert County for generations so I thought it was so awesome that they tied the county into the wedding.

Catherine. Wow. Just wow.

These two don’t take themselves too seriously. They both smashed a bit of cake during the cutting, but then Bobby turned his back afterward and Catherine made sure she had the last word about the whole cake situation :)

What better way to end their post than with Bobby’s amazing take on Gangnam Style? I love it :)

Rachel & Thomas

I’ve known Rachel probably since I was around 12 because we grew up riding horses together. Even though they’ve been dating nearly eight years, it feels like there has always only been Thomas for Rachel. So I was over the moon when Rachel asked me to shoot her wedding this June and I was really excited to finally meet this elusive Thomas after all these years. Once I met him it all made sense, because he and Rachel are perfect for each other. With the perfect balance of serious and funny, they complement one another in the best of ways and were so fun to spend the evening with. We shot their session at the farm Rachel keeps her horse Chesney at, so it was perfect to include him as well as Rachel and Thomas’ dog Blitz in several of the photos. Enjoy some of my favorites!

Friday Five: April

Friday Five on a Monday? Yeesh…I know. That just goes to show you what last week was like for me. I started feeling a little sick on Monday evening after I got done riding my horse and got out of the shower, and by Tuesday afternoon I knew something was going on. I ended up having some crazy combination of a sinus infection, flu symptoms, and something nasty in my chest causing an atrocious cough. I’ve been sick three times in the last two months and this is the first time I’ve been knocked on my butt like this, literally spending all of Wednesday, Thursday, and half of Friday in bed. No fun :( So the Friday Five which should have been up Friday is now showing up on a Monday. We can bend the rules, right?

Here’s five things that are on my mind from April…

1. Timing: I’m honestly so grateful I got that sick when I did, rather than this week when I have to travel back to Maryland. Even though I was straight up miserable for three and a half days, I could not be more lucky that it happened then instead of now.

2. Progress on the house: Remember how I shared about our plans for our “diamond in the rough” of a house? Well, our plans have changed once again but it’s really exciting. I’ll share more soon, but this has been a big point of stress this month so it’s amazing to finally be REALLY getting somewhere, I think :)

3. The Voice: I watched American Idol back when I was little, but then everyone and their mom started coming up with singing shows and it just got old to me. The Voice had seemed kind of intriguing in commercials, so at the start of this season, Dustin and I decided to see what the fuss was about and we LOVE it. Oh my gosh…the talent! And you know what is the best part? That it’s all about lifting people up and being positive, rather than telling them how awful they are and making a joke of them, like American Idol had turned into years ago. I especially love the camaraderie between the coaches. Any other Voice fans?

4. Swearing off my FB & IG feeds: Some of you may know by now but about 2.5 months ago I “quit” the news feed on FB. I haven’t looked at it since and it’s been one of the best changes EVER. Like in the world. I only use FB to share pictures with my family who are 500 miles away, and for my business page, and that’s the way that it should be for me. I got so tired of never being “enough” compared to everyone else. Lately I’ve also been social media free nearly every weekend, and also am rarely looking at my IG feed either. I just don’t need all that white noise. Do you guys remember the days where you could do things and not feel like you needed to tell the whole world about it? When just doing and being was enough? I mean IG is a little different because nothing beats having pictures to remember these little moments in life, but seriously, who needs to know about every single wonderful thing going on in your life via your FB news feed? Or every terrible awful stroke of bad luck? It’s either one extreme or the other and just wasn’t working for me. I have always admired those who are modest and humble but FB makes it way too easy to act like those two characteristics don’t even exist and just straight up toot your own horn all day long. My achievements are meaningful enough to me without having to tell the world about it and wait for that constant pat on the back. To each their own, but yuck…I feel like FB has this nasty way of changing peoples character.

5. Spring in the South!: I am convinced that aside from the epic proportions of allergens in the air, there is nothing like spring in the South. Really. It is the BEST. No gnats, beautiful colors in the trees, cool nights, breezy, warm days, sunshine, ahhhh it’s literally perfection! Can’t we just have this season all year long?

Folly Beach Wedding: Becca & Jay

I swear there is no place like the South in the springtime. And what better way to enjoy the amazing southern weather than a beach wedding? I enjoyed assisting Dana Cubbage Weddings for Becca and Jay’s beautiful April wedding at Folly Beach, South Carolina. They kept the guest list small and turned their gorgeous rental home into a completely unique wedding venue. Becca left no detail untouched, and I love how clear it was that there was so much thought and personalization put into their wedding day. Enjoy some of my favorites!

I thought it was so fun that the guys drove across Folly Beach to the wedding in these golf carts.

Landon

This week was Landon’s spring break so we basically had the best week ever. We spent nearly every afternoon at the pond fishing, swimming, playing with the dogs, riding the horses bareback, and enjoying the amazing weather. We played the high low game at dinner, we made ice cream, watched cartoons, snuggled a lot, and just had so much good quality time together as a family. Ordinarily we only have every other weekend with this dude, so having him for the whole week is always a treat :)

I don’t know why, but last week I realized I’d never done any “real” portraits of him, just always candid stuff over the years. Now he’s at that age where he is SO fun and eager to please, so I knew this was the perfect time. So off we went one afternoon, trekking around the farm, having a good ole time :) I love this kid SO much and am so fortunate to have him in my life. Being his “bonus mom” is one of the greatest privileges and it’s been so incredible watching him grow up so much over the last 3.5 years. And of course it doesn’t hurt he is soooo handsome just like his daddy :)
Yes, all of these pictures are his real laugh. I may be biased but he has the kind of laugh you just want to bottle up and hear every day :)

Lowndes Grove Wedding: Amy & Bryan

Last Friday I once again had another wonderful opportunity to shoot alongside Paige Winn of Paige Winn Photo. Her fun couple Amy and Bryan (from Baltimore! Fellow MD-ers!) were married at Lowndes Grove in historic Charleston, South Carolina and their wedding was one of the most beautiful I have seen. I’m sure you will agree :) Enjoy some of my favorites!

Planting the Garden

What beats planting a garden on a Sunday afternoon with my two favorite boys and two favorite yellow people? Here’s to hoping something really grows (and the deer don’t have a feast!). I’ll keep you posted over the next couple of months! ;)

Riley’s absolute favorite part of any type of gardening is stealing the plastic containers and shredding them to 1000 tiny pieces.
